Wingstop Announces High School Scholar Athlete of the Month

Dawn King of Waxahachie High School named February Athlete of the Month

DALLAS (March 27, 2014) –Wingstop has nominated Dawn King of Waxahachie as the February High School Scholar Athlete of the Month.

King is a senior at Waxahachie High School, and is currently ranked in the top 25 percent of her graduating class. She has been a part of the Lady Indian athletic program since her freshman year. King is currently one of two team captains on the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team, in which she is a 4-year letterman. She has received honors since her Freshman year, earning the titles of District 15-4A Newcomer of the Year, 2nd Team All-District, and 1st Team All-District. In addition, she has earned state rankings in 3-point shooting. King has also participated in cross country, as well as track & field.

In addition to her athletic triumphs, King has served as a member of Waxahachie High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter, mentors local youth, and has worked extensively with low-income Waxahachie families. She plans to attend Florida A&M University in Fall 2014 to play basketball.

Each month, Wingstop and Dallas’ CBS 11 invite viewers, athletic directors, coaches and members of the community to nominate exceptional athletes from the Metroplex to receive a $1,000 scholarship from Wingstop. The scholarship initiative was launched two years ago by the Wingstop D-FW co-op, which includes more than 75 restaurants throughout the North Texas region.
